Kent County Council have produced a new video about the East Kent Access Road, featuring Kent’s Principal Archaeological Officer, Simon Mason.

East Kent Access Road
A new road is to be built on the Isle of Thanet in east Kent during 2010-11. The road will be 6.5 km long and will cross one of the richest archaeological areas in Britain.

Before the building starts archaeologists will excavate the whole length of the route. This will be the largest excavation in Britain in 2010, covering approximately 40 hectares.

Kent Police Heritage Crime Prevention Partnership
We are working closely with the Kent Police Heritage Crime Prevention Partnership and sites are being regularly monitored by to prevent unauthorised metal detecting. In addition, the archaeological project team is working with local authorised metal detectorists to ensure the recovery of all metal artefacts during topsoil stripping and subsequent archaeological excavation.
